What’s happening to Meghan Markle is a typical form of bullying directed at a woman who is clearly gifted, talented and accomplished. Few things provoke as much hostility as the jealousy people refuse to acknowledge within themselves. Her very presence can act as a mirror, confronting others with their own insecurities, limitations and unfulfilled potential. And sometimes, the person holding up that mirror is punished simply for what others see in it.
Meghan is an extraordinary woman, and the relentless hostility directed at her reflects far more poorly on those perpetuating it than it ever could on her. It is deeply disappointing to witness this kind of treatment coming from a country that many of us, looking in from abroad, once associated with fairness, decency and kindness. No woman should have to endure such relentless scrutiny and hostility simply for being who she is. I sincerely hope the tide will turn, and that she will finally be allowed to live, create and thrive in peace.
Here are some extra thoughts shared by Connie Loren Comer about how double standards couldn’t be more highlighted in this situation and it’s worth having a look at it:
WHY KING CHARLES OWES MEGHAN MARKLE AN APOLOGY! THE ROYAL DOUBLE STANDARD IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.
For those asking what King Charles has to do with the relentless attacks on Meghan Markle, I have two words for you:
QUEEN CAMILLA.
Apparently, some of you are either too young to remember history or suffering from a very convenient case of royal amnesia.
Let’s refresh your memory.
Camilla was once arguably the most hated woman in Britain. She was the mistress in one of the most publicly humiliating royal marriages in modern history. Diana famously referred to her as the Rottweiler.
Camilla was married herself, with children, while carrying on a relationship with another woman’s husband.
And what happened?
THE ROYAL REBRANDING CAMPAIGN OF THE CENTURY!
For decades, Charles and his supporters worked to rehabilitate Camilla’s public image. Carefully managed appearances, favorable publicity, strategic positioning, and a remarkable transformation from controversial mistress to respected royal consort.
And eventually?
THE WOMAN WAS CROWNED QUEEN!
If you had told the British public the day after Diana died that Camilla would one day be sitting on the throne beside Charles, people would have asked what the hell you were drinking.
Yet here we are.
So please spare me the ridiculous argument that the monarchy has absolutely no influence over public relations or media narratives.
Nobody is suggesting Charles controls every newspaper. But pretending the monarchy has no ability to influence its own public messaging is an insult to everyone’s intelligence.
NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT MEGHAN MARKLE.
Meghan didn’t sleep with somebody’s husband.
Meghan didn’t destroy a royal marriage.
Meghan wasn’t involved in a decades-long extramarital affair.
Meghan hasn’t been convicted of a crime.
Yet somehow, according to her critics, SHE is the woman who needs rehabilitation?
REHABILITATION FROM WHAT? BREATHING? MARRYING HARRY? REFUSING TO DISAPPEAR?
Make it make sense! And since we’re discussing royal scandals, let’s talk about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Andrew faced serious allegations arising from his association with Jeffrey Epstein, which he denied. He settled Virginia Giuffre’s civil lawsuit without admitting liability.
For years, Andrew continued appearing alongside senior royals despite the controversy surrounding him. And now, after all that, we’re supposed to believe Meghan Markle is the great royal catastrophe?
A WOMAN WHO GAVE AN OPRAH INTERVIEW IS SOMEHOW MORE OFFENSIVE THAN A MAN WHO FACED ALLEGATIONS CONNECTED TO EPSTEIN?
The moral gymnastics deserve an Olympic gold medal.
And let’s not forget that Harry and Meghan lost their use of Frogmore Cottage after spending millions refurbishing it, while Andrew’s housing arrangements have remained a subject of royal controversy.
But apparently, the greatest threat to the British monarchy is still Meghan Markle opening her mouth.
ABSOLUTELY COMICAL.
Now, let’s discuss Piers Morgan. In my opinion, Piers has behaved like an unofficial public-relations attack dog for the royal establishment.
That’s my opinion, and I’m entitled to it.
His relentless criticism of Meghan and Harry has been extraordinary. Even Meghan discussing something as devastating and personal as a miscarriage became an occasion for skepticism.
But here’s my question:
If the royal establishment genuinely objects to the vicious treatment of Harry and Meghan, where is the forceful public condemnation?
Where is the intervention?
Where is the unmistakable message that enough is enough?
SILENCE ISN’T ALWAYS NEUTRAL. SOMETIMES SILENCE IS CONVENIENT.
And don’t even get me started on Diana. Charles publicly admitted adultery during his marriage to Diana.
Diana lost her HRH styling following their divorce. She also lost the automatic royal police protection she previously enjoyed. She later died in a horrific car crash.
And yes, Diana wrote a deeply disturbing letter expressing fears that a car accident would be arranged to kill her.
But her fears and the circumstances surrounding her loss of protection remain part of this painful history.
YOU WOULD THINK A FAMILY THAT EXPERIENCED SUCH A CATASTROPHIC TRAGEDY WOULD BE EXTRAORDINARILY SENSITIVE TO SECURITY THREATS AGAINST ANOTHER ROYAL WIFE.
Especially when Harry has publicly discussed threats against Meghan and the dangers they believe they face. And this time, racial hostility has also been part of the equation.
Yet people want to compare the security needs of Harry, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet with those of relatively obscure members of the extended royal family.
Are we seriously pretending public visibility and credible threats don’t matter?
Security decisions should be based on actual risk assessments, not popularity contests or family grudges.
AND HERE IS WHERE KING CHARLES COMES IN.
I am not saying Charles personally orders journalists to attack Meghan. I am saying he knows perfectly well what a sustained public-relations strategy looks like. He witnessed one transform Camilla’s reputation over decades.
He understands the value of royal messaging.
He understands the influence of institutional support.
And he understands what happens when a controversial royal receives the benefit of patience, protection, and a carefully managed public image.
CAMILLA WAS GIVEN DECADES TO BECOME ACCEPTABLE. MEGHAN WAS BARELY GIVEN A CHANCE TO BE HUMAN.
And that is the double standard I find absolutely revolting.
You can dislike Meghan. You can criticize her interviews. You can hate Harry’s book.
NONE OF THAT JUSTIFIES RELENTLESS PERSONAL VILIFICATION OR RACIST ABUSE.
And none of it explains why a woman who married a prince is treated by some commentators as though she committed a greater moral offense than people involved in genuinely serious royal scandals.
Forgiveness for Camilla. Patience for Andrew. Decades of image rehabilitation for the establishment.
But Meghan?
Apparently, she must be publicly flogged forever for daring to speak.
WHAT AN EXTRAORDINARY DISPLAY OF ROYAL HYPOCRISY.
And before someone starts screaming that Meghan and Harry brought criticism upon themselves, let me remind you:
Charles admitted to cheating on Diana on national television. Camilla became queen. Andrew settled a lawsuit involving allegations of sexual abuse.
Yet Meghan is supposedly beyond redemption because she complained about her treatment?
Please.
IF THE MONARCHY COULD FIND ROOM FOR CAMILLA’S REDEMPTION, IT COULD CERTAINLY FIND ROOM FOR MEGHAN’S DIGNITY.
King Charles cannot dictate what the free press publishes. But he can set a public example, condemn racist abuse, and make it unmistakably clear that threats and harassment against his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren are unacceptable.
And in my opinion, he should have done far more.
That’s why I believe he owes Meghan Markle an apology.
Not because she’s perfect.
Not because Harry is perfect.
BUT BECAUSE BASIC HUMAN DECENCY SHOULDN’T DEPEND ON WHETHER YOU’RE THE KING’S FAVORITE.
The royal family managed to turn yesterday’s most controversial mistress into today’s Queen.
So don’t insult my intelligence by pretending it has absolutely no power to defend a woman who married into the family.
CAMILLA GOT A CROWN.
MEGHAN GOT A TARGET ON HER BACK.
And some of you still have the audacity to ask where the double standard is?
THE DOUBLE STANDARD IS PRACTICALLY SITTING ON THE THRONE.
