I love “Spare” – Prince Harry’s book is so interesting!

I understand Harry’s struggles and what he’s fighting for. I understand his desire and need for truth. I understand his position, rather unfavorable, in his family. I understand his authenticity. This is why I wanted to buy this book and read it. I will share here a few delights from the first 50 pages.

The perfume

We learn about the perfume that his father, now King Charles, wore, or perhaps wore a little too much at times because the smell seemed to permeate every room he passed through.

Eau sauvage de Christian Dior

Balmoral Castle

We learn that Harry loved Balmoral Castle. He just loved spending time there, mostly during summer. To him, it was like heaven or what Disney represents for children. He loved the open spaces and the whole atmosphere around the castle. He loved fishing and spending most of his time outside when he was there.

Balmoral castle, château de Balmoral

The Highland bath

We learn what a highland bath is. It is a bath that is sometimes very cold, sometimes very hot, because the water apparently flows either in one extreme or in another in the old fittings of the castle so “a highland bath” has become like a private joke.

Moreover, the water often scares the guests because it often flows a little light brown. Only because it is filtered and softened with peat. The inhabitants of the castle are therefore often very amused when the guests discover the bathroom for the first time.

The announcement of his mother, Princess Diana’s death

We learn how Harry has found out about his mother’s death: his father, at dawn, standing at the foot of his bed in a white nightgown, telling him that she had a car accident and that she didn’t make it…

And then we learn how he could not conceive of it, so much so that he kind of did not believe it for a long time. A part of him became disassociated from the reality and the truth in a way. Following Diana’s death, he had some sort of memory disorder and a different relationship to the events, with many areas where he does not remember.

He confides in us about the perplexity with which he looked at all those desperate and tearful people outside in the streets, in front of the castle, when his mother died. Because as he says: “they didn’t even know her”. It’s true that when you see the pictures of those two young boys waving to the crowd and thanking them for all the flowers, you wonder what they could be thinking deep down. Besides the fact they didn’t know her, he was also thinking “why are they crying when I’m not even having a tear”.

We discover that it took him a long time to break down and let his tears come out, which happened at the moment of the burial of the coffin. Imagining that she left with a photo of her two boys on her heart, he broke down and allowed himself to burst into tears, which seemed a quite difficult thing to do in a family dominated by the rule of never showing what one felt… One can imagine that the difficulties he had afterwards, in terms of post-traumatic shock, were linked to the fact that he could not express his emotions in a secure environment.

What is shocking about his mother’s death is the loneliness he faces. We see that after his father’s announcement in the early morning, he is left alone for hours in his room. The days which follow, he is also very alone, we see that nobody really speaks to him about that, nobody asks him what he thinks, feels, everyone goes about their business and life just goes on, leaving this child with endless questions and false imagination about how things were.

We understand that they were very lonely little boys in a beautiful castle filled with people to serve them.

      3. Hi Kristy, my advice for you is to post regularly, at twice or 3 times a week, put some written content so the robots can find out some key words and what you’re talking about. And yes then, you’ll your audience growing little by little! And even more if you go on social media to post your articles there and show up, sharing your passion! Does that help?
