Normopathy & the assessment of giftedness

French expert Fabrice Michaud warns against what is known as :

Normopathy

– And the pitfalls of clichés about giftedness

Normopathy

Normopathy means trying to be normal at all costs. Beware, this is a dangerous bias. In reality, everyone wants to be normal, but it’s not healthy to want to be like everyone else, to try to fit in with a completely polished image, because there’s no such thing. These are just illusions transmitted by images and sometimes by the media.

It’s not healthy to want to be like everyone else.

Fabrice Michaud

Every human being has inconsistencies and rough edges in their personality. Each person has their own particular way of functioning, sometimes constraining, sometimes funny and original, but it’s all this that makes the charm of a human being.

Normopathy is what Fabrice Michaud calls “Ikea mode”: when we want to simplify everything and make it smooth, to the point of doing away with everything that makes life and each person so charming.

Beware of the clichés surrounding the assessment of giftedness!

Many gifted people think that they are not gifted because they fit into a cliché: “it’s the child who gets good marks, passes the baccalaureate at 12 and becomes an astronaut at 18” 🙂 🙂 !!

There’s a lot at stake in this cliché:
people need to understand that a gifted person is not a cliché.

So watch out!

Some people who are gifted and recognized as excellent in their field are sometimes very good but they are not gifted. Giftedness lies elsewhere and is not a question of performance.

Example: The IQ test can be very easy for a polytechnicien because they have the superiority in terms of ability but not the gap. They are therefore very well integrated into the world, have no problems with values, strong ethics, feelings of betrayal, etc. So they perform well, but they don’t have the necessary skills. So they perform well but they don’t have the personality of a gifted person. They have the cognitive skills, but not the personality profile of a gifted person.

Recognising a gifted personality

Gifted people can be identified by their very strong ethics, their strong need for justice, their deep-rooted values which are omnipresent in their lives and which, when they are not, plunge them into deep disarray… She has a heightened sensitivity to many phenomena and areas of knowledge, which sometimes lead her intuitively towards knowledge that is atypical and inaccessible to most people.

Giftedness therefore lies more in the heart and in deep values, with a way of reading the sensitive world in an atypical way than in any kind of performance.

Gifted people have great human qualities and are often shy: they don’t dare put themselves forward. The reason why my clients often fit this profile is that by having a profile and values similar to theirs, I have both the personal and professional skills to understand and support them. I understand their sensitivities and needs and, above all, I want them to succeed because they deserve to.

Another value that characterises them is authenticity. I work to make known the heart and soul projects of these people who are completely sincere with their clients by offering them the fruits of an honest approach that is deeply aligned with their personality.

As a communications consultant, I help idealistic entrepreneurs who want to create new realities and paradigms in our society to achieve their goals using the tools of marketing, communications and project development.

Do you recognize yourself in this type of profile and need support to develop your projects?
